A large sector which covers a huge range of companies from small and large lenders, asset and wealth managers, insurance, investment companies and those who provide a wide array of financial services.
They provide their services to retail and commercial customers. Much of the sector has been affected by increasing regulation and, in some cases, requirements to hold markedly higher capital reserves. Regulation, restructuring and compliance are expected to remain significant considerations for the sector.
Ian has over 25 years’ equity research experience as a Financials analyst, covering both UK and European banks, as well as specialist lending companies, wealth and asset managers. He has held senior research positions at Canaccord, Williams de Broë and Yamaichi Securities, where he was Head of Research. Ian has worked at Progressive since it was founded, in 2012. He is Head of Research as well as having responsibility for Financials coverage.
Mike has over thirty years’ experience covering the Financials sector. During his career he has worked as Head of Financials Research at a number of global investment banks including HSBC Group and Bear Stearns International. He was also Head of Equity Research at Oriel Securities. Mike is an Expert Witness and Consultant in the Financial Services sector, and acted as a testifying expert witness on the Lloyds Banking Group shareholder action relating to Lloyds TSB’s 2008 acquisition of HBOS.
Gavin is an accomplished analyst with over twenty years’ equity research experience, covering a broad range of sectors, including UK investment trusts, global mining stocks and European small and mid-caps. Prior to joining Progressive, Gavin spent seven years at Edison Investment Research. After graduating from the University of Exeter with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Gavin went on to qualify as a chartered accountant with PwC. His earlier research experience includes time working at Cazenove, Williams de Broë and Nomura, and he has featured in top five-ranked teams in a number of City surveys.
